The weird and wonderful world of art
Bit of a diary update, as I haven’t been posting here anywhere near as much as I perhaps should. My life has taken a hard left turn recently personally and professionally – in the space of about a month I’ve lost a couple of people in my life, as well as a few clients. My 3 main clients have made me financially prosperous have dropped off the radar completely for various reasons, one permanently the others for at least a few months. This is a void that’s going to take some time to fill completely.
This is also an opportunity.
For the next few months I’m going to focus hard on my illustration work and put on a show. I recently joined a group show, it was pretty successful – in particular the animals I’ve been working on recently, selling 8 of the large prints. I also made some very useful contacts, including one particular sale for exclusive rights to the image.
So, maybe it’s time to step things up and put on my own show? If this is what happens when I show a handful of pieces, what happens if I fill a gallery? Time to find out and throw a bunch of stuff at the wall and see what sticks.
I’ve been applying to galleries and throwing work samples for a few weeks now, it feels a bit like wandering around in the dark to be honest. Particularly the subject of how to price my work. If nothing else I expect to learn a lot from this experience.
Stay tuned, it’s looking like I’ll have the gallery booked in the next few days.
